EXPLORE THE LEGEND: GODIVA INTRODUCES THE LEGACY TRUFFLE COLLECTION

Godiva Chocolatier’s New Limited Edition Collection Features the Most Iconic Truffles From the Past 60 Years

NEW YORK, NEW YORK – June 1, 2009- This fall, Godiva Chocolatier will introduce a collection over 60 years in the making: the Godiva Legacy Truffle Collection. Our Chef Chocolatiers hand-selected the most iconic and delicious Godiva truffles - each representing the most innovative ingredients, flavors and culinary styles in Godiva’s 60 years of truffle making history. From the first Godiva truffle ever created to a truffle created for a Belgian Princess, this timeless collection celebrates Godiva’s rich chocolate heritage, paying homage to the legacy of truffles and their culinary evolution throughout Godiva’s over 80 year history.

The Godiva Legacy Truffle Collection showcases the rich heritage of Godiva truffles, beginning with the first truffle made by Chef Chocolatier, Joseph Draps, in 1946. Monsieur Draps was committed to finding the perfect dairy butter, scarce after World War II, to make this ultra rich and indulgent truffle for his loyal consumers. The result? The Original Dark Chocolate Truffle, featuring rich chocolate cream rolled in cocoa powder, introduced a new level of decadence in chocolate. For the next 60 years, each Godiva truffle created has echoed Draps’ commitment to redefining the chocolate experience through the use of different shapes, inspirations and flavors.

A pure chocolate lover’s journey, the artisanal collection continues its tour through Godiva’s deep history with the Belgian Premiere Truffle from 1950. Originally available only in Godiva’s Belgian flagship chocolate shop, the Belgian Premiere is made in the traditional Belgian elongated shape and consists of rich and cream milk chocolate rolled in dark chocolate flakes. Thirty years later, in a nod to Godiva’s regal quality and heritage, the Royal Mathilde Truffle was developed in 1980. The official chocolatier of the Belgian Royal Family at the time, Godiva created this sumptuous truffle, a mix of smooth coffee and espresso ganache in dark chocolate adorned with a cursive M, in homage to Princess Mathilde.

The Godiva Legacy Truffle Collection continues its exploration through Godiva’s rich history with the inclusion of the Grande Truffle, originally created in 1986. The first truffle developed exclusively for North America, this generously sized truffle was inspired by the shape of a buttercream, a popular treat at the time, and features sweet milk chocolate ganache blended with chocolate flakes and dark chocolate stringing. Shortly thereafter, the Praliné Truffle was introduced in 1988. This truffle marked the creation of a new and innovative style of Godiva Truffle – a solid, thin shell of chocolate filled with ganache.

Long considered the epitome of indulgence, Godiva truffles have evolved over time to incorporate seasonal and exotic ingredients. A sublime experience in culinary nostalgia, the Legacy Truffle Collection also includes three of Godiva’s best selling flavor innovations. Beginning with 1992, the Harvest Spice Truffle was Godiva’s first limited edition seasonal truffle, which was designed to celebrate the flavors of fall, the collection also includes the Pabana Truffle, first introduced as part of the exotic Limited Edition Truffle Collection in 2004, and the Crème Brûlée Truffle, the standout of 2008’s European Dessert Truffles Collection.

The Godiva Legacy Truffle Collection is available in 5 piece ($18.00), 10 piece ($28.00) and 20 piece ($54.00) gift boxes. A 30 piece gift box ($85.00) is also available for the most momentous special occasions. Packaged in elegant chocolate brown keepsake boxes and tied with a single red ribbon, these exquisite sets contain truffles as special as the moment they’re shared.
